Reduce Test Anxiety

Try an evidence based activity to reduce test anxiety and improve exam scores.

 

Use this short activity to reduce test anxiety and improve test scores for whole classes or especially stressed individuals.  This is an evidence based activity (Writing About Testing Worries Boosts Exam Performance in the Classroom, Gerardo Ramirez and Sian L. Beilock Science 14 January 2011: 331 (6014), 211-213).  Check out the scientific reference before you do the activity or just have your students write about the following immediately before an exam.  (The essays can be kept by students or shared with instructor.)

 

Jettison your stress in 3-5 minutes:

Use the next 3-5 minutes to write about your feelings of test anxiety or test related stress.   How do you feel today and why do you think you feel that way?

Upload your peaceful place in 3-5 minutes:

Use the next 3-5 minutes to describe a physical location that relaxes you and inspires a peaceful feeling.
